Reasons not to take this medicine:
· Do not give this medicine to a child younger than eight years of
age.
· If you have an allergy to doxycycline or any other part of this
medicine.
· Tell our office if you are allergic to any medicine. Make sure to
tell us about the allergy and how it affected you. This includes telling
about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough;
swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat; or any other symptoms
involved.
· If you have liver disease.
· If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
What is this medicine used for?
· This medicine is used to prevent or treat acne.
· This medicine is used to prevent or treat a variety of bacterial
infections.
· This medicine is used to treat adult periodontitis. It is used
with scaling and root planing.
How does it work?
· Doxycycline works to injure the bacteria and fight the infection.
How is it best taken?
· To gain the most benefit, do not miss doses.
· Take this medicine with or without food. Take with food if it
causes an upset stomach.
· A liquid is available if you cannot swallow pills. Shake
suspension well before use.

do I do if I miss a dose?
· Take a missed dose as soon as possible.
· Do not take a double dose or extra doses.
What are the precautions when taking this medicine?
· Check medicines with healthcare provider. This medicine may not
mix well with other medicines.
· Do not take antacids with this medicine.
· Do not take bismuth (Pepto-Bismol®), calcium, iron, magnesium,
zinc, multivitamins with minerals, colestipol, cholestyramine, or
didanosine within 2 hours of this medicine.
· Avoid alcohol (includes wine, beer and liquor).
· You can get sunburned more easily. Avoid sun, sunlamps and tanning
beds. Use sunscreen; wear protective clothing and eyewear.
· Use birth control that you can trust to prevent pregnancy while
taking this medicine.
· Birth control pills and other hormone-based birth control may not
work to prevent pregnancy. Use another form of birth control while
taking this medicine.
· Tell our office if you are breast-feeding.
What are the common side effects of this medicine?
· Stomach pain.
· Nausea or vomiting. Small frequent meals, frequent mouth care,
sucking hard candy or chewing gum may help.
· Diarrhea. Yogurt, Bifidobacterium bifidum, or Lactobacillus
acidophilus may help. These products are available at health food stores
or in some pharmacies.
· Side effects from Periostat® are less.
What should I monitor?
· Change in condition being treated. Is it better, worse or about
the same?
· Follow up with our office.

· Signs of a life-threatening reaction. These include wheezing;

Reasons not to take this medicine:
· If you have an allergy to metronidazole or any other part of
this medicine.
· Tell our office if you are allergic to any medicine. Make sure to
tell us about the allergy and how it affected you. This includes telling
about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough;
swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other symptoms
involved.
· If you are less than 12 weeks pregnant.
· If you are breast-feeding.
What is this medicine used for?
· This medicine is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
How does it work?
· Metronidazole works to injure the bacteria and fight the
infection.
How is it best taken?
· To gain the most benefit, do not miss doses.
· Use prescription as directed, even if feeling better.
· Take this medicine with or without food. Take with food if it
causes an upset stomach.
· Take long-acting products on an empty stomach. Take one hour
before or two hours after meals.
What do I do if I miss a dose?
· Take a missed dose as soon as possible.
· Do not take a double dose or extra doses.
What are the precautions when taking this medicine?

mix well with other medicines.
· Avoid alcohol (includes wine, beer and liquor). Do not take

What are the common side effects of this medicine?
· Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred vision, or a change in
thinking clearly. Avoid driving, doing other tasks or activities that
require you to be alert or have clear vision until you see how this
medicine affects you.
· Nausea or vomiting. Small frequent meals, frequent mouth care,
sucking hard candy, or chewing gum may help.
· Diarrhea. Yogurt, Bifidobacterium bifidum, or Lactobacillus
acidophilus may help. These products are available at health food stores
or in some pharmacies.
· Headache. Mild pain medicine may help.
· Not hungry.
· Abnormal taste. This is usually reversible.
· Change in color of urine to black or brown.

swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat; or any other symptoms
involved.
What is this medicine used for?
· This medicine is used to prevent or treat herpes infections.
How does it work?
· Acyclovir works to injure the virus and fight the infection.
How is it best taken?
· Use prescription as directed, even if feeling better.
· Take this medicine with or without food. Take with food if it
causes an upset stomach.
· Drink plenty of noncaffeine-containing liquid unless told to drink
less liquid by healthcare provider.
· A liquid is available if you cannot swallow pills. Shake well
before use
· If you are taking this medicine for a recurring infection, start
medicine as soon as possible.
· If you are taking this medicine for herpes zoster, start as soon
as possible; no later than 3 days after rash appears.

How does it work?
· Prednisone replaces an important chemical produced in the body.
· It blocks the allergic reaction by minimizing or preventing the
body's reaction to the allergen.
· It decreases the body's harmful response to diseases affecting the
immune system.
How is it best taken?
· Take this medicine in the morning if taking once a day.
· Take this medicine with food.
· A liquid is available if you cannot swallow pills
